Airplane Crash Akron Ohio - AKRON, OH (WOIO) - Authorities began a rescue operation Wednesday morning following a plane crash in Akron.
Danny Levkovic, owner of ExecuFlight, which leased the plane, said there were nine people on board: the pilot, co-pilot and seven passengers.

According to the FAA, the 1979 Hawker H25 twin-engine business jet took off from Dayton and approached Akron Fulton International Airport at 3 p.m.

The OSHP plane clipped a telephone line, crashed into an apartment building on Skelton Road at Mogador Road, then struck a utility pole behind the building. It was two miles from the airport.
OSHP Lt. Bill Haymaker said authorities have been in contact with the owner of the building, who confirmed that no one was home at the time of the crash. He says no one else was injured there.

"You heard this loud roar and it just kept going down. Then I saw a blue flash from the power lines, and then a second or two later there was a big plume of smoke. There were a couple of explosions. And sometimes the little explosions, you could actually hear the trees rustling," Patton said. said.
Summit County Medical Examiner Dr. Lisa Kohler said a mass casualty program is in place to identify victims and will begin Wednesday morning.

Aviation expert Jamie Lebowitz, a senior partner at Nuremberg Paris, said several preliminary reports on the crash may be released, but he estimates it will be at least a year before the FAA releases its factual report.
There is no word yet on whether there was an emergency call from the plane before the crash.
