Pistol-caliber carbines have graced the hands of shooters since the introduction of the self-contained cartridge. They saw great benefits during the settlement of the American West, as both ranchers and outlaws saw the value and convenience of having their rifles and pistols fire the same ammunition. Whether it's a 9mm carbine or another caliber, adding one of these to your collection can pay off.

The current crop of carbines were adapted for civilian use with select-fire submachine guns such as the H&K MP5 and CZ Scorpion. They also gained a lot of popularity from the AR pistol craze. This helped usher in a new era of the PCC, as many realized the benefits of a compact, high-powered rifle but experienced the drawbacks of typical rifle calibers. Today we have reviewed the best 9mm carbines.

Now, here's a quick look at why a pistol caliber carbine is a great choice for your next firearm.
The first major advantage that PCCs offer is reduced muzzle volume. The standard AR .223/5.56 is pretty loud. Like the SBR, the recoil is teeth-rattling, as anyone who has fired at a range can attest. Even unmuffled PCCs are much quieter and can often be safely heard when suppressed without the need for ear protection.
Many firearms owners have a dedicated handgun for home defense, and PCC checks all the desired boxes. It has less recoil than a standard rifle, making it great for smaller or recoil-sensitive shooters. Compared to a pistol, a carbine increases accuracy, especially in high-stress situations. A longer sight radius held closer to the eye makes a big difference.

For range practice, 9mm is inexpensive and there are many different rings to choose from to suit your needs. These include subsonic bullets, several types of hollow points, light and heavy Teflon-coated bullets, and high-end match ammunition.
For most handgun bullets, bullet velocity increases with barrel length. This is especially true for 9mm ammunition. This results in flatter trajectories, allowing for a longer effective range. Most 9mm carbines are accurate to at least 100 yards. PCCs are also in a class of their own in USPSA competitions. So those who enjoy racing can use their PCCs for that too.
It was originally released in 1996 (Ruger Police Carbine) but was discontinued in 2007 due to poor sales. It was designed to be carried in the back of a police car and was used in situations requiring longer range or greater firepower compared to a pistol. Ten years later, demand for the PCC revived and Ruger brought their carbine back to market.
The new version is based on their popular 22.10. It shares a number of components with its smaller brother, including most of the timing package. They're not 100% interchangeable, but that means more options are more likely to come to market. Other features include a 16-inch barrel with a ½â-28 thread and a built-in Picatinny rail. The charming barrel is a welcome addition. It has reduced weight and increased surface area for better heat management. Plus, it looks really cool. It features a side-shifting charging handle and a magazine release and quick disconnect for easy removal.

In addition, it is light, weighing a scant 6.8 kg empty. It has a total length of 34.37 when fully assembled. You get three spacers that can be installed between the pad and rubber to measure the length of pull of long or long shooters. When folded, it fits easily in a backpack. This makes it a great option for backpackers or hikers who want to carry extra protection without being too visible. No one wants their camping trip interrupted by an excessively noisy suburb.
It's also useful for backpackers because it fires 9mm, so it takes up less room per round than the .223/5.56.
This carbine is an excellent candidate for a suppressor. With a bolt action, less gas is thrown at you compared to the direct blowback system found in many AR-15s. Accepts Ruger SR and Security-9 series pistol magazines. Also includes a mag well adapter to convert it to Glock magazines. This is a huge advantage even for non-Glock shooters, as magazines are easy to find due to their popularity. Disassembly is quick and easy to clean.
The PC Carbine is available for under $600, making it a great choice for those on a tight budget.
Sub2000 Carbine Rifle
If you're a fan of the classic look of the MP5 but feel right at home with the AR-15 controls, this is the carbine for you.
Released in 2015, SIG calls it the first fully enclosed, rotating bolt-and-piston automatic. This is to prevent water or dirt from entering the chamber. This may not be much of a problem for the average shooter, but improved reliability is always a welcome feature. It has an ambidextrous magazine release and safety selector located in the same location on a regular AR. The charging handle is on the back, as you'd expect.
The overall length of the carabiner is 33 and the weight is 7.6 pounds. The free float barrel is 13.3 with a 2.7 flash attached and welded to it. It meets the 16 barrel requirements because the flash hider is designed to be permanently attached and not easily removed. They should have fitted it with a standard 16 inch threaded barrel. You'll need a tax stamp to remove it, unless it's being replaced with another weld and muzzle mount that matches the 16-inch threaded barrel. A clamped and welded muffler adapter would also meet the requirements and eliminate the need for two (as of this writing) instead of one gasket.
It has a three-length adjustable stock and a full-length KeyMod handguard. This gives you plenty of room to mount your optics. In addition, it does not eat into the hand when shooting like normal rails. The mounting points are on all sides of the fender, so the lights and front grips are also easy to install. The included iron sights are pretty good if you prefer to shoot irons. The all-metal build feels solid in your hand and is a joy to shoot. The trigger is just the right weight for quick and accurate shooting. What's more, the gas system is designed to handle any weight of 9mm rounds without the need for adjustment.

Being a popular competition gun, there is a large selection of aftermarket parts to customize it to your liking. The trigger looks great as is, but standard AR trigger groups are also needed if you have a favorite or just want to experiment. One 30rd magazine included. The cancellation is similar to most ARs and should feel familiar when cleaning.
The MPX is an attractive option that combines the MP5 and the AR-15. It's made by a company known for quality and battle-proven. Its only real downer is its tendency to blow gas from the charging handle while shooting. This is especially important when recording is suppressed. Since the charging handle is smaller than a standard AR, no dropout solution will work, but specific MPX charging handles are in the works to alleviate the problem. It's more than that, and it doesn't stop us from recommending the MPX as an excellent 9mm carbine.
It works reliably when depressed, is durable enough for competition, and folds down small. The name may sound familiar as Scorpion has existed in many forms since its inception in 1961. However, the current generation (EVO 3) bears no mechanical resemblance to its predecessors.
Select-fire EVO 3s are in use in several militaries around the world, and a semi-automatic variant hit the civilian market in early 2015. Features adjustable trigger reach, ambidextrous safety and two-stage magazine. The charging handle is interchangeable on the right side and doesn't retract when firing so your thumb doesn't get in the way when your preferred grip is close to the mag well. The grip pulls back and up to lock, which means you can do the H&K slap to close the bolt, which is almost as fun as shooting. The guard is covered with M-Lok attachment points and is long enough to accommodate various lights and front grips.

When shooting, it is noticeably light, even for a carbine, weighing only 7 kilograms. This is due to its polymer construction, which has proven to be very durable. The top rail is also polymer, but the fit and finish is
